Paul is currently the Director Pathways at Hillcrest Christian College. He has a Bachelors in Applied Science (Chemistry & Math), a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching and 27 years invested into the lives of his students (and family). When he’s not working through subject choices and academic pathway strategies with students, he’s either teaching Graphics or trying to stay on top of general QCAA administrivia for the college. In years past, Paul has been HOD for Hillcrest’s Mathematics and Science departments as well as taken responsibility for a number of years of developing and maintaining the College’s Secondary timetable. Paul has kept up a positive relationship with Excel throughout, and though he is by no means anywhere near an expert, he has definitely found ways to use it to make his life easier and is happy to share these tips.
BREAKOUT SESSION 1 – Data Driven Decision Making with Excel
Target audience ALL
It is time to put Excel to work in your class results calculations. We’ll look at a couple of Excel functions I couldn’t live without!
With a little preparation, Excel’s VLookup function can convert all your student’s marks into grades and/or grades to marks instantly (no more calculating by hand). Let’s see if we can take your markbook to the next level. In addition, Conditional Formatting is a great way of automatically (and easily) identifying students of academic concern from your grade data with colours and/or symbols. These simple tools can help you make data driven decisions that will improve your understanding of students as individuals.
